Steel guard rail keeps vehicles away from things that cannot take a hit. Around Fresno that usually means a building corner beside a loading dock, a row of gas meters or electrical gear, a pedestrian walkway through a parking lot, the edge of a drainage basin, or a drop at the side of a private drive. We install W-beam rail on steel or wood posts, as well as pipe rail and bollards for tighter spots.
Packing houses, cold storage plants, warehouses and truck yards are the biggest users in this area. Forklifts and trailers work close to walls and doors all day, and a few posts and a length of rail cost far less than a damaged dock door or a broken sprinkler riser. We look at how vehicles actually move on your site, then place the rail where it will be hit instead of the thing behind it, with gaps left for people and pallet jacks.
Post depth and soil decide how well a rail stops a vehicle. Posts are driven or set in concrete, and in valley ground they often meet hardpan a few feet down, which has to be drilled. Rail on a public road follows the road agency's standards and is not something a property owner can simply add, so our work is on private property. If your rail is required by a permit condition or an insurer, send us the wording and we build to it.
Guard rails in Fresno: common questions
What is the difference between guard rail and bollards?
Guard rail protects a long edge, such as a wall, a walkway or a drop. Bollards protect a single point, such as a door, a meter or a corner, and let people walk between them. Many sites use both.
Can you replace one damaged section of guard rail?
Yes. Rail comes in standard lengths that bolt to the posts, so a bent panel can be swapped without redoing the run. Posts that were pushed over are pulled and reset.
Do you install guard rail along public roads?
Our work is on private property: lots, yards, drives and loading areas. Rail in a public right-of-way belongs to the city, the county or the state, and it is built to their standards under their contracts.
