Dog Kennels in Fresno, CA

A kennel in Fresno has to be planned around heat before anything else. Chain link is the usual material because air moves through it, but a run in full sun on bare concrete is not safe for a dog on a July afternoon. So the first questions we ask are where the shade falls after noon, which way the breeze comes from, and whether there is water close by. A shade cover or solid roof panel over part of the run is often the most useful thing you can add.

We build kennels and runs to fit the space: a single run along a side yard, a row of runs with shared walls for a breeder or boarding business, or a large exercise pen on a country lot. Height, mesh size and gate latch are matched to the dog. A climber needs a top. A digger needs a concrete curb, a buried skirt of mesh or a slab floor. Small dogs need tighter mesh low down so a head cannot get through.

The floor matters as much as the walls. Concrete is easy to wash, but it should slope to a drain and have shade over it. Gravel and dirt stay cooler but are harder to keep clean. On properties near fields we see foxtails and burrs along fence lines, so keeping the edges clear is part of upkeep. If you run more than a few dogs or board them for pay, ask your city or the county about kennel rules before you build.

Dog kennels in Fresno: common questions

What size kennel does my dog need?

Enough room to turn, lie flat and move a few strides, with more length for an active or large dog. Tell us the breed, the weight and how many hours a day the dog will be in it, and we lay out a size that fits your yard.

How do I keep a kennel cool in a Fresno summer?

Put it where there is afternoon shade, cover part of the top, keep air moving through the sides and give the dog a floor that is not bare sunlit concrete. Even then, a kennel is not a place to leave a dog through the hottest hours without water and checking.

Can a kennel be moved later?

A panel kennel that clamps together can be taken apart and moved. A run with posts set in concrete and a slab floor is permanent. If you rent or may move, say so and we will suggest the panel type.
